US building permits jump in July; housing starts fall

US privately‐owned housing units authorized by building permits rose 8.4% in July to a rate of around 1.34m.

The reading beat market expectations for a rise to 1.27m, from 1.23m in June.

Housing starts, however, fell 4.0% to a rate of 1.19m, below market expectations of a rise to 1.26m, from 1.24m in June.
