Ireland retail sales fall 0.2% monthly in April; down 0.5% on-year

The volume of retail sales in Ireland declined in April, data published by the Central Statistics Office showed Thursday.

The volume of retail sales was down 0.2% in the month and 0.5% lower than a year ago.

Notably, the volume of retail sales of books, newspapers & stationery was up 4.6% on-month in April, followed by food, beverages & tobacco which saw a 3.9% rise.

On the other side, retail sales for clothing, footwear & textiles saw a 2.9% decline, while fuel sales were down 2.3% on-month.

The value of retail sales for all businesses fell by 0.4% monthly but was 1.0% higher than in April 2025.
