Jet2 expects to meet expectations as Gatwick launch boosts capacity

Jet2 PLC on Wednesday said it expects to report profit in line with market expectations as the firm said work towards its launch at London Gatwick airport has ‘progressed well’.

The Leeds, England-based provider of package holidays and flights said the first flights from the airport will depart on March 26.

Since the last update in November, Jet2 said its winter 2025/26 on sale seat capacity has remained at 5.5 million seats, which is 7.4% higher than winter 2024/25.

The firm said average pricing for both is leisure travel products has followed a similar trend to summer 2025.

As a result it expects to report operating profit for the financial year to the end of March in line with current market expectations, including around £10 million of promotional and resourcing start up costs ahead of the Gatwick launch.

Based on the company-compiled consensus, the average market expectation for operating profit for the year is £439 million, down 1.7% from £446.5 million in financial 2025.

For the next financial year, Jet2 said it is investing in its load factor and is ‘committed to pricing that is attractive and represents real value to our customer’.

It said capacity growth for the year is concentrated on new and recently established bases in Bournemouth, London Luton and London Gatwick, to add 1.1 million seats. It said there will also be 2.0% growth at ‘more established bases’, adding 400,000 seats.

As a result, on-sale capacity for summer 2026 is 8.0% higher than last year at 20.0 million seats.

Jet2 said booked to date passengers are up by 7.9% for the next financial year with ‘healthy demand for both our leisure travel products’.

‘We are very pleased with how the 2026 financial year is concluding, and are excited about the commencement of operations at London Gatwick. For summer 2026, we are satisfied with our bookings to date and remain committed to pricing that is attractive and represents real value to our customers,’ said Chief Executive Officer Steve Heapy.

Shares in Jet2 were down 2.4% at 1,256.00 pence on Wednesday morning in London.
