Irish retail sales rose in November from the previous month, supported by motor trade activity, while volumes were also higher than a year earlier, data from the Central Statistics Office showed Tuesday.
The CSO said retail sales volumes increased 0.5% in November from October on a seasonally adjusted basis. Compared with a year earlier, volumes were up 2.5%.
Excluding motor trades, sales volumes rose 0.2% on the month and increased 1.0% from November 2024.
On a value basis, which includes price effects, retail sales were 0.5% higher on the month and rose 3.9% year-on-year. Excluding motor trades, sales values climbed 0.3% from October and were up 2.5% annually.
The strongest monthly volume increases were recorded in motor trades, up 4.7%, bars, up 3.8%, and hardware, paints & glass, up 2.8%.
The largest monthly volume declines were seen in other retail sales, down 1.4%, food, beverages & tobacco in specialised stores, down 1.4%, and books, newspapers & stationery, down 1.2%.
On an annual basis, motor trades posted the strongest growth, up 12%, followed by hardware, paints & glass, up 7.0% and pharmaceuticals, medical & cosmetic articles, up 5.5%.
The sharpest declines were in food, beverages & tobacco in specialised stores, down 7.4%, and clothing, footwear & textiles, down 4.0%.
