UK business investment jumped in the first three months of 2025, recovering strongly from a decline at the end of last year, provisional data from the Office for National Statistics showed on Thursday.
Business investment rose by 5.9% in the January to March period, following a revised 1.9% fall in the final quarter of 2024. Compared to the same quarter a year earlier, business investment was up 8.1%.
The figures, adjusted for inflation, reflect renewed momentum in corporate capital spending.
This provisional estimate is based on partial survey returns, with a response rate of 65% for the main capital spending survey. A bias adjustment of £1.6 billion was applied to account for typically late-reported large expenditures.
A fuller breakdown and revision of the data will be published on June 30.
