Irish consumer price inflation quickened both monthly and annually in May, according to a flash estimate released by the Central Statistics Office on Thursday.
The EU harmonised index of consumer prices for Ireland rose by 1.9% in May from a year before and by 0.5% from April.
This compares with an annual increase of 1.6% in April and a monthly increase of 0.2% from March.
Energy prices are estimated to have fallen 0.3% in May from April and by 3.6% since May 2023.
The CSO said food prices remained unchanged in May, but rose 2.3% over the past 12 months, while transport costs rose 1.5% monthly and 7.1% on-year.
The HICP, excluding energy and unprocessed food prices, is estimated to have risen by 2.5% from a year prior.
