Irish construction volumes fall 0.7% in fourth quarter of 2023

The volume of production in building and construction fell in the fourth quarter of last year in Ireland, according to provisional data from the Central Statistics Office on Monday.

On a quarterly basis, seasonally adjusted production fell 0.7% in the fourth quarter, when compared with the third quarter. In the third quarter, production fell by 4.9% compared with the second.

On an annual basis, the volume of production declined by 6.3%. In the previous quarter, the volume of production declined by 9.9% from the same period a year prior.

During the same period, production volume in the non-residential building sector fell by 11%, and dropped by 5.0% in the residential building sector, while the only sector to show an annual increase was civil engineering, said CSO.

The seasonally adjusted value index for building and construction fell by 0.4% on a quarterly basis, and by 3.6% on an annual basis. In the third quarter, it fell by 6.6% on a quarterly basis, and by 7.3% on an annual basis.
