Consumer price inflation in Ireland slowed year-on-year in July, the latest figures from Ireland’s Central Statistic Office showed on Thursday.
The consumer price index rose 5.8% on an annual basis in July, cooling from a 6.1% rise in June. The CSO noted this was the 22nd straight month in which the annual increase was at least 5.0%.
Anthony Dawson, statistician in the Prices Division of the CSO, said the most significant rises in the year were seen in Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas & Other Fuels, which rose 16.5% in July, and in Recreation & Culture, which rose by 13.9%.
On a monthly basis, consumer price inflation cooled to 0.2% in July from 0.8% in June.
On a EU harmonised basis, consumer prices rose by 4.6% annually and 0.2% monthly in July.
