Ireland manufacturing production down in second quarter of 2023

Production in manufacturing industries declined in the second quarter of 2023 in Ireland when compared with the previous three months, data from the Central Statistics Office showed on Wednesday.

From April to June 2023, the seasonally adjusted production index was 180.2, compared to 187.7 for January through to March.

Production in manufacturing industries decreased by 4.0% when compared with the previous three-months.

For April to June, the ’Modern’ sector, which includes the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, and Computer & Electronic sectors, recorded a fall of 1.7% in industrial production. By contrast, the ’Traditional’ sector recorded a moderate increase of 2.5%, when compared with the prior three months.

This is the second consecutive quarter where there has been a decline in the Modern sector, and growth in the Traditional sector.

On an annual basis, production in manufacturing industries was 2.3% higher in the three months from April to June 2023 when compared with the same period in 2022.

On a monthly basis, production in manufacturing industries grew by 25%. The seasonally adjusted production index for June was 210.8, compared to 168.8 in May.

From April to June, turnover in manufacturing industries declined by 12% compared with the previous three-month period.

The turnover index was 140.8, compared to 160.5 in the prior three months.
