Severn Trent PLC’s acquisition of Andigestion Ltd is being probed in the UK, the Competition & Markets Authority said on Friday.

The CMA, assessing whether the deal lessens competition in the UK, has set an August 18 deadline for a phase one decision.

Severn Trent, a Coventry-based water company, announced its green power unit’s planned acquisition of food waste operator Andigestion in February.

Andigestion is a Maidenhead, England-based food waste collection and biogas specialist.

Severn Trent said the planned acquisition would enhance its ‘energy generation capacity and resilience’.

‘This will bring an additional 45 gigawatts hours per year of energy generation, increasing Green Power’s output by 16%,’ the company said.

Shares in Severn Trent were up 0.3% at 2,697.00 pence in London on Friday morning.
