“The FTSE 100 nudged higher in early trading after Wall Street made tepid progress overnight, while Asian markets were mixed. Traders are keeping a keen eye on today's OPEC meeting and the latest US payroll numbers,” says AJ Bell Investment Director Russ Mould.
“Johnson Matthey was an early blue-chip riser with investors heartened by the group’s robust performance in challenging conditions. Overall sales were flat and underlying operating profits fell by 6% but Johnson Matthey will see the benefits of restructuring over the next 12 months. Demand for the group’s emission-control technologies is strong and it remains well positioned in markets with strong growth drivers.
“Budget airline Ryanair continues to break records despite disruption caused by air traffic control strikes in France. The group, which has already pledged to cut prices to maintain its market share, carried a record 10.6 million passengers in May and improved its load factor by two percentage points to 94%.
“Kibo Mining’s shares rose after it signed a memorandum of understanding with Lake Victoria Gold to consolidate the companies' respective Imweru and Imwelo gold projects. The deal will create a jointly owned company with a resource of more than 755,000 ounces and with the potential to increase that to more than 1 million oz in a short timeframe.”
