“The FTSE100 started the final session of the trading week on the front foot following solid gains on Asia's main markets,” says AJ Bell Investment Director Russ Mould.
“British Airways parent International Consolidated Airlines Group was the biggest blue-chip faller despite record third quarter results. All the group’s companies, which also includes Spanish airline Iberia, Ireland’s Aer Lingus and budget airline Vueling, performed well with passenger revenues boosted by improvements in the Spanish and Latin American markets. The improved performance, though, has also been driven by continued restructuring and cost-cutting. IAG’s shares were down by more than 2.9%.
“Royal Bank of Scotland’s shares rose after third quarter pre-tax profit rose to £871m, more than triple the £255m posted a year earlier. Net attributable profit was £392m, swinging from a loss of £469m a year ago. The group’s aim is to grow income, cut costs and use less capital across its core businesses and to make progress on resolving legacy issues and it saw progress on all goals in the three months to the end of September. RBS’s shares were up by more than 3.3%.
“Online merchandising specialist ATTRAQT’s shares plunged after it lowered its full year revenue guidance. The group has been reviewing previous forecasts and found inaccuracies on the timing of some contracts and client 'go-live' dates. Revenues are now likely to be around 10% lower than its previous expectations although they will still show year on year high single digit organic growth. ATTRAQT’s shares were down by over 18.3%.”
